My Midwest Weather Report

Right now, I’m experiencing the worst winter storm in my four years of residence in the Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland area.  This record-breaking storm has made national news, and my old stomping grounds, The Cascade Radio Group, contacted me for a conversation with Dillon Honcoop on KGMI in Bellingham, Washington.  Listen for my weather report.

A Real Veteran Broadcaster

This is a sample of my conversation with Air Force Sgt. Don Taylor, a Northwest Indiana native and radio DJ during the Vietnam War.  Don and I sat down to listen to one of his last recorded shows overseas, and revisit his days overseas from ’69 to ’70.  This is Don’s own real-life version of “Good Morning Vietnam”.  I thank Sgt. Taylor for his service, and his time spent with me.

This piece has been nominated for the 26th Annual Indiana Broadcasters Association “Best In Broadcasting” Spectrum Awards.

Ecuador In Northwest Indiana

Teachers from Ecuador become students in Northwest Indiana, and visit Lakeshore Public Media. Many of these visitors are in a radio studio for the first time, and get the experience of talking on the air.

My First Tattoo

It’s been reported that The Porter County Health Department is cracking down on tattoo shops failing to comply with Indiana state regulations.  The new plan is to inspect tattoo shops once or twice a year, focusing on areas of health concerns and age requirements.  Inspectors will look at cleanliness, equipment, procedures, blood issues, and infectious waste disposal.

I received my first tattoo from Jeff Groom at Ancient Ink, located on 109th Avenue in Winfield, Indiana.  Jeff guided me through the whole process, addressing all health and safety issues.  I documented the experience of my first tattoo in this short radio production.  Take a listen…

New Movie Releases In The Region

Despite the troubles President Lincoln has had in theaters in the past, the new “Lincoln” biopic has been highly anticipated in Northwest Indiana.  Oh yeah, then there’s the conclusion to that little thing called “Twilight”.  Tune in to the latest edition of the Rotten Tomatoes Movie Review to hear about the new releases in The Region.  Plus we’ll feature a favorite song from a favorite movie soundtrack as a “Song of Cinema”, and we’ll play “Midwestern Rock Band or Movie Title”.  It’ll all right here…

Mysteries At The Museum

The hit Travel Channel show “Mysteries At The Museum” premiers Season 4 on Thursday, November 15th, at 8pm Central Time.  A portion of the season was filmed in Northwest Indiana at the John Dillinger Museum.  Host Don Wildman and the Travel Channel will dig deeper into the infamous Dillinger escape from the jail in Crown Point.  I spoke with the rugged, adventure seeking Don Wildman about the upcoming season, and how he keeps that 5 o’ clock shadow so perfect in every episode!
